As a drummer, the drum sets is the most important asset that you have. To shop for the best drums in the given budget is always a challenge. Also the fact is that as a beginner you would mostly be at loss of the things which are important to look for than a few other things.
Here are my tips to shopping for drums.
The beginner drum sets usually come with poor quality cymbals so make sure that you buy good quality cymbals. The drums even if they are of little inferior quality will do if you put good heads to them and tune them properly. These cymbals usually are very crappy for beginners and sound very harsh. So go, buy the best cymbals with the drums. Buy branded cymbals like Zildjian or Sabian.
There are beginners lines of drums from companies such as Pear, Tama, Yamaha, Pacific or Ludwig. For beginners there are series which are not expensive before you graduate to the next level. These are made of Philipine Mahogany and very inexpensive hardware. As long as you are looking to learn the drum playing then you need not worry about the wood or the finish. Go for the beginner level.
The next step up from beginner level series is the semi professional ones like the Tama Rockstar series or the Yamaha Stage Custom. The price range for these is $500-900 and is usually made up of birch, which is of course high end. Most professional players will usually upgrade to more high end drum sets from these semi professional ones once they are confident enough and will put more money for the most reputed and professional drum sets and even get a few custom made.
The most recommended company which people buy from is Pacific. They have drums made up of birch or maple wood which would need and have good lacquer finish. The price range can be again based on your choice of drums but surely under $1000.
The next best option to get professional drums for a relatively low price is E-bay. They have huge listing and usually you will get a good bargain from there. But make to do your due diligence while buying from the online market place.
The other tips usually that you need to look for are the warranty on the drums and the cymbals, what is the hardware associated with it and also make sure to check the freebies the companies give out. A lot many companies give out freebies with the drum sets. Some may be good but good companies like Yamaha will not have anything like freebies.
Some of the good online shops are wwdw and steveweissmusic. Do your research and enjoy the drum sets.

Starting your score can be very challenging, and will require a lot of concentration and patience. You must decide on the proper mood, tone, and which instruments you are going to use. Whether you're using classical instruments or programming the music on a computer, the sound of each instrument will adversely affect the tone of the piece.
Plan ahead by watching as many of the scenes as you can (if not the whole film) and figure out how many different emotions you will have to convey with your music. The director or music supervisor should also help you when deciding this. With each different emotion or different scene, you may have to compose a whole new piece of music.
Creating the Mood
The most important thing to remember about composing a score for a film is that the music must be able to help provoke an emotional response from the viewers. Your music must coalesce with the footage to create a visual/aural masterpiece.
There are thousands of films that wouldn't have been what they were without the music that they had. It's been said that Star Wars looked terrible and was almost laughable before the music of John Williams was added. A film composer must be able to compose music that not only fits well with the video, but also provokes the viewer to feel strong emotions without knowing why. Your music must become part of the movie, and move with each scene to allow the viewers to get absorbed.
Tact and taste are very important here. Doing too much or too little is a very real possibility and is something that is very easy to fall into. Creating the perfect score is not an easy task, and not something that everyone can do.
Creating a Theme
Many composers employ themes into their music that are repeated throughout the film in various forms. Themes are what make music memorable, as they are repeated often and will stick in the mind of the viewers (listeners). Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Halloween are perfect examples of using a musical theme in a score. Watch any of those films and you will quickly recognize the theme in each composition.
If you strike gold with a great piano riff, or an emotional melody, try to find different ways of using it throughout your composition. It can be a highly useful tactic, but be sure not to overuse your theme, for it can become tired and ruin the emotional impact. Hold off in some sections and try creating a new melody with the same notes, or something that sounds vaguely similar. Creativity is key.
Using Effects
Using sound effects in your music or using things that aren't usually used as instruments can make for a very unique piece of music. Using such things as household objects as percussion instruments or odd loops can really spice up your music.
A great example of using sound effects in music is the Oscar winning film Atonement. Composer Dario Marianelli used the noise of a typewriter as a percussion instrument in his score and the result was breathtaking. Hearing the music in a movie theatre was a great experience.
Completing Your Score
If you take pride in your work and utilize great care while composing, you just might be able to create a great piece of music. If it fits well with the film, and provokes an emotional rush from viewers, you should celebrate and give yourself a pat on the back.
Composing music is a task that isn't right for everyone, and composing music for film is another thing altogether. You must use tact, creativity, passion, and good judgment to compose a great piece of music, and you will have to put your heart and soul into what you are creating.
Remember not to treat music as secondary to the visual aspect of the film. When done right, it can be just as important as the acting or the camera angles. Without great music there are no great films.

The Gretsch Guitar has a long and wonderful history going back more than 100 years. The Gretsch story begins in 1883 when Friedrich Gretsch started up a small musical instrument shop in Brooklyn New York, where they made banjos, drums and tambourines. Unfortunately Frederich wouldn't get to see his company reach the peak of its success because he passed away only 12 years later at the young age of 39.
The company was taken over by his teenage son Fred who ended up building the company into one of America's top importers and manufacturers of musical instruments. So in 1916, a bigger facility was needed and Fred moved the operations to a huge ten-story building. While in this new building, the demand for guitars started to grow, so Gretsch started offering acoustic arch top guitars to target the Jazz musicians and acoustic flat tops for the Country musicians.
In 1935, a man by the name of Duke Kramer joined the Gretsch Company and remained a valued counsel up until his death at the age of 88. Charles "Duke" Kramer was known as "Mr. Guitar Man" and was a big reason why Gretsch guitars are where they are today. To show Duke how much he meant to the company, Gretsch named a guitar after him called "The Silver Duke" even though he couldn't play a note.
In 1942, Fred Gretsch Sr. retired and left his sons Fred Jr. and William, to run the company. Fred Jr. and William had been working in the company since 1927 so they were prepared for the promotion. Fred managed for a short while until he left to be a commander in the Navy and then William became president. Fred Jr. took over once again a few years later in 1948, when William passed away.
The 50's were great for Gretsch guitars mainly because of the popularity of Rock music. They were the first guitar company to introduce custom color finishes to their lineup and ended up being one of the top guitar makers in the decade. They even attracted popular guitar players to endorse their guitars such as Chet Atkins, Eddie Cochran and Duane Eddy.
Popularity and success continued for Gretsch in the early 60's when George Harrison, who was with The Beatles at the time, started using Gretsch guitars.
The end of the 60's on the other hand was not that great. Fred Gretsch Jr. decided to retire and sold the company to Baldwin Manufacturing. Baldwin didn't seem to understand Gretsch's position in the market and times were dreadful for the company for the rest of the 60's and 70's. Baldwin also moved the guitar production to Arkansas where the factory went through two terrible fires.
Baldwin decided to shut down production in the early 80's and eventually sold it back to the Gretsch family when Fred Gretsch III bought it in 1985. Fred then moved operations to Savannah, GA where he began the process of reviving the company.
Fred got Gretsch back on the right track when he released a series of vintage re-issues, new models and some classic Gretsch drums as well. These releases caused an immediate impact and Gretsch instruments were back in demand.
In 2002, a deal was made with Fender where Fender would take control of the manufacturing and distribution of Gretsch. This joining of forces enabled the Gretsch Company to continue to grow without sacrificing their ideals.
Being involved with Fender has made the popularity of the Gretsch guitar even bigger today. Some of the artists who endorse Gretsch guitars are Chet Atkins, Brian Setzer, Bo Diddley, Jimmie Vaughan, Malcolm Young and Stephen Stills.

Tony Yayo has bein included on most of his G Unit friends solo albums, in preparation for his own debut album release. The artists featured on the album consist of 50 Cent, Young Buck, The Game and Lloyd Banks. And of course other artists such as, Lil' Flip, Paul Wall, Eminem and Dr. Dre. The album title Thoughts Of A Predicate Felon has already been released in America.
Expectation for Thoughts Of A Predicate Felon has developed since his new audio tracks have been featured on mixtapes and the most popular radio stations. Tony Yayo is one of G Units original members. During a tour stop in south New York, the G Unit artist was detained for an outstanding weapons charges warrent and was sentenced to a year in a New York prison. When Yayo was finally let out from prison he was almost immediately detained again the next day for having in his possesion a fake passport. The incident forced Yayo to spend six months in prison. After release, the rapper began preparing for his debut album.
The G Unit rapper was recording with G-Unit even though he is only featured two times on Beg For Mercy. Free Yayo was a group created by the G Unit members with the purpose of creating great support for the detained Tony Yayo. For example, on the Beg For Mercy sony Stunt 101 rapper and friend Young Buck says free yayo, the video for that same track features "free Yayo" graffiti. The interest group got to be much bigger than any of them had imagined, even with such rappers such as Eminem wearing a "Free Yayo" T-Shirt at an MTV music Awards 2005. Which ended up in the sale of apparel with the phrase 'Free Yayo' on it. The association was accountable for the enthusiasm and expectation produced for the release of the G-Unit rapper. As an additional effect, Tony Yayo's features on alternative mixtapes seriously raised sales of DJs such as DJ Clue and DJ Whoo Kid.

Hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Matt Jones is no stranger to the music scene. With three studio albums and over 500 live gigs under his belt, this well versed artist is sure to knock the socks off of anyone who gives his poignant stories a listen. When thinking back on his first live performance, Jones recalls being about twelve years old and singing "Polly" by Nirvana. As a newbie to performing, he admits "I wore my most grunge-music-like outfit so that everyone would believe the song. I'm not sure if it worked, but as I recall, I didn't have anything thrown at me." While early influences stemmed from rock, his own music shows roots in pop and folk and his desire to write, record and perform it blossomed after that first show.
Jones released his first album, Better Transitions, in 2005. Transitions consists of ten tracks one of which is "Maybe It Was Me". His reflective soul shines through in this song -- "How can you be different from the girl I knew back then? You talk the same you look the same and you still got that grin. But now it seems a world of change has caused me to believe, if its not you then maybe it was me." As a listener this is truly relatable and Jones himself admits that many times, as a young musician, stories come directly from personal experience -- "it's difficult to detach yourself from your art when you're not fully developed". Wondering if this particular emotion comes from something Jones experienced in his own life causes the listener to want to connect to him on a personal level such as in a live show atmosphere.
For two years after the release of Transitions, Jones toured and wrote to perfect his 2007 release of the EP The Segue. His ability to produce both a stripped down yet fuller sound is immediately evident in the song "Austin". With breaks in the piano, allowing his lyrical vulnerability to shine through, ("It's been a while since I said goodbye. And even longer since I had to try to let someone go I wished could stay."), Jones once again opens his listener to raw sentiment. His metaphorical examples are rich in visual emotionality; through them the listener feels the pain Jones pours into this powerful ballad. Jones may not have meant for the title of this album to be literal towards the third but it certainly bridges the gap on the journey to his most recent release.
When asked which of the three his favorite album is, Jones states "I'm always a victim of the new, so my favorite album or song is always the one that I'm working on. I just released my album Passerby in January of 2008, and ended up being very happy with it because it's not a repeat of former works". The three songs from this album on Jones' MySpace page include the title track, "Passerby", "What I Wanted to Say" and "Something New". There are interesting musical additions on this album such as what sounds like ocean waves on the title track and more prominence placed on acoustic guitar. These songs have a particular appeal, in more of a pop vein than the other two albums, and it would not be a surprise to hear any of them becoming a big radio hit.
The music behind his lyrics tells just as strong a story as the lyrics alone, and Jones would have it no other way. Although extremely catchy, none of his lyrics are predictable in the rhyming; the progressions from verse, chorus and bridge are strongly influenced by musical transitions. He states "I would almost always like to have some idea of what the music sounds like before putting lyrics to a song because it certainly helps you determine how words fit rhythmically and melodically within the piece." Concerts - Beatles At Shea Stadium
In this article we're going to review one of the most famous concerts in rock and roll history, The Beatles performance at Shea Stadium.
The Beatles are arguably the most famous band in rock and roll history. They certainly were the start of the British revolution that spawned many bands with that Brit sound, but none of them sounded quite like the Fab Four.
The Beatles first concert at Shea Stadium in New York set records for the time. The attendance was 55,600 people and the money made was over 57,000 pounds. Not too bad for August 15, 1965. The noise factor at the stadium that day was so loud that John Lennon said it was "louder than God." Lennon had a habit of comparing the Beatles to the almighty, which ultimately got him and the group into a lot of trouble in their early days.
Most people know about the concert date and what was played there, but what few people know is what happened to the Beatles on the way to Shea Stadium. While it was nothing traumatic, it is important to note that in spite of their enormous popularity, they were in total awe of what they were walking into.
On the drive to the stadium, George Harrison was totally in awe of the amount of traffic headed that way. The freeway was a total disaster area. Cars were hardly moving and for a while it looked like the Beatles themselves would be late for their own concert had it not been for the helicopter that took them from Wall Street to the stadium. The view from up above was as if people were trying to escape some sort of national disaster.
They wouldn't allow the Beatles to land in the stadium so they had to land on top of the roof at the World's Fair. From there, it was one hundred yards to the stadium in a Wells Fargo armored truck. Talk about security. On the drive in the truck, which had no windows, to the stadium, insane kids were banging on the outside of the truck and rocking it back and forth. At one point George thought the truck was going to be turned over and they were all going to be torn to pieces. All of this in spite of weeks drawing up plans for how they would get the group to the stadium.
Ironically, the concert, compared to modern times, was very low budget. The amps were Vox Ac-30s. The group was offered to have anything they wanted made for them, but they turned down all offers. They wanted to play with the equipment that they had always used. Consequently, the sound quality was not great. But the experience was one that will probably never be felt by anyone ever again.
For those interested in the music, the highlights of the concert were "A Hard Day's Night, "Help, "I'm Down, "Can't Buy Me Love, "Ticket To Ride, "I Feel Fine, and "Twist And Shout".

Playing the Guitar - Acoustic Stylings
The acoustic guitar is an instrument which produces sound via the vibration of the strings through the hollow body, sound board and sound hole. String vibration can be achieved by using a flatpick, usually made of plastic, or by simply strumming the strings with the thumb. One can pick individual notes or strike a combination of strings at once to produce a chord.
A more intricate method is fingerpicking, a technique which uses the thumb and tips of the fingers to strike individual strings. Fingertips, fingernails (which are usually grown longer for this specific purpose), fingerpicks which are attached to the thumb and fingers can all be used for fingerpick guitar playing.
The acoustic guitar is a very portable instrument. Lightweight and easily transportable it makes the perfect musical companion. The lowest tone string, the string you would strike first in a chord with a downward pick motion, is called the sixth string and each subsequent string is the fifth, fourth, third, second and first, respectively. Standard tuning is as follows:
Sixth string - low E
Fifth string - A
Fourth string - D
Third string - G
Second string - B
First string - E
The neck of an acoustic guitar is made up of the fretboard, frets, tuners and headstock. The neck also contains a truss rod which is a metal rod that runs through the inside of the neck. This rod works to keep the neck from succumbing to the tremendous tension created by the strings. The fretboard (fingerboard), with spacing created by frets, is where a guitarist depresses strings to create notes and chords.
The strings used on acoustic guitars are made of steel, nickel or bronze alloys. One end is ball shaped. This end is dropped into the appropriate hole at the bridge and generally a bridge pin is pushed into the hole to keep the ball end in place. The string is then run up the fretboard and attached to the appropriate machine tuner. The machine tuner is turned to wind the string around the tuner post until all slack is taken up and the proper tone achieved. There's a neat little plastic winder tool you can buy which makes turning the machine heads a lot quicker and easier.
The tone from a new set of strings is beautifully bright. Depending on how much you play and how much finger oil and sweat are transferred to the strings oxidation will inevitably set in and the strings will lose that brightness of tone. When that happens just put on a new set of strings.
Keep in mind that when you first start playing an acoustic steel string guitar your fingers will hurt. You must practice on a regular basis to toughen up your fingertips. There's no shortcut unfortunately. So there you have it, a little bit of information on the steel string acoustic guitar.
